ORIGINALLY RECORDED BY BRENDA RUSSELL 1988, THE TUNE WAS NOT A MAJOR POP HIT. THREE YEARS LATER, OLETA'S VERSION SKY ROCKETED TO THE TOP 5 OF THE POP CHARTS. IN PART BECAUSE OF THE GULF WAR, GET HERE WAS THE MOST REQUEST SONG OF THE YEAR. THIS SONG STANDS THE TEST OF TIME AS IT SOUNDS JUST AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT DID THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO.

One of the cute features of your blog is this Flashback Friday feature, which makes me wonder what surprises from the past you are going to unleash upon us! :-) This is a good choice, and I heard it again on the radio just recently, in the wee hours of the morning while I was preparing myself to get to work. It gave me a chilling calm, and indeed, the production of the song and the vocals give it a timeless feel... absolutely brilliant! ~ Chwee (sg)

Absolutely LOVE this song. I never knew who sang it, or even enough of the lyrics, to search for it online. Thank you so much!

I was listening to this just the other day and thinking where the hell has good music/vocals gone.

Could you do me a favour? Miss Alexandra Burke does a great duet cover of this on youtube. You post very little on her and was wondering if you could post the version as a request for my mate Kevin.

I would really appreciate it
